I don't think much 5.45 is made in the states. An executive order from the president could ban the import...
I would start off with a basic AR in 5.56 and decide of that is sufficient or if you want to change things up. AR's are about as easy to change around as LEGOs...

Thanks for the info.
I've heard some talk that most ARs are basically plastic (it's called composite something) and that can be an issue with more basic models. Would you agree with that?
