But, but, but, I thought Austin, Texas was an oasis of tolerance and love in a desert of reactionary, Republican right-wingers???
(Seriously, this is a bad arrest*. I hate when cops make "POP" arrests. It makes for bad case law down the road. I still don't know why LEOs don't understand search/seizure concepts.)
*If she really was popped for merely failing to produce ID.

Austin Police do not have a good track record.
There was a "This American Life" story a couple years ago about the Austin police setting up a sting car to catch thieves. They parked it in a neighborhood in front of a guys house without informing anyone in the neighborhood. Owner of house calls police several times complaining about an abandoned car in front of his house. Finally gets fed up after a week and investigates himself, sees suspicious items in car. Car is unlocked, he gets in trying to find some info to contact who ever owns the car. He tries to open the the locked trunk. Police swarm vehicle and arrest him for B&E. He spent over a year fighting it.

You are retarded if you think that

I think it's fair to say there is a lack if emphasis ( at best) on citizens rights at all levels of LE. This sort of thing is growing commonplace in our society. It's part if the trending militarization of police forces.

Thought so too, but how can there be so many professional panhandlers in a city with so much left-wing love for their fellow man? They have four man teams of beggars working intersections like the Knights of Columbus on a tootsie roll drive.
