This afternoon, on a party-line 17-13 vote, Republicans in the Arizona Senate bucked the national trend and gave final approval to SB 1062, a GOP-led bill that would create a special "right" to discriminate against LGBT people on the basis of religion.

Oh Arizona you are always entertaining

We will see if Grandma Jan has the good sense to veto this disaster.

Fine by me.

Apparently, the bill is so broad that you would be allowed to descriminate against anyone you wish.

I have absolutely zero issues with that.

I'm more concerned that there are 56 other states where the Government will force store owners to do business against their wishes.

What if a bakery doesn't carry one of these toppers in their shop:

Are you in favor of having the federal government force the bakery to purchase the topper, place it on a wedding cake and sell it to a gay couple?

You still don't get it.

This bill protects freedom and rights of private sector entities and the citizens that work in the private sector.

Private citizens and private businesses don't belong to you or the gov't.

Ok so let me get this straight: the majority party passes something along party lines and will soon be the law of the land(Arizona)? I thought the minority party was just supposed to suck it up since it is THE LAW OF THE LAND

What problem do you have with a state upholding the 1st amendment?

The bills sponsor acknowledged this also allows motels to turn away gays, Jews, and unmarried women.

Just when you think the tie elf public favor might turn against the Dems.

Pubs go and do something like this.

This law looks terrible.

So you're saying a person should be forced to participate in an act that he/she finds morally wrong?

I am amazed at how effective the left is at seizing this issue with a language twist.

This is not a discrimination bill, it is a freedom bill.

It merely says that the machinery of the state will not be brought down upon those who wish to live and act according to their religious convictions.

I am also amazed that it has come this.
I find it sad that states actually have to pass laws to "re grant" freedoms that should be there by default,
and that the mindset of many is that we don't have these freedoms unless the state tells us we do.

Poor, persecuted Southerners. Everything would have been peachy if the Big Bad Government hadn't crammed Jim Crow laws down their hard-working, small-business owning throats.

The South had segregation laws because Southerners wanted segregation laws and kept electing politicians who would ensure their survival. It was a populist, regional movement which painted the librhul federal government as the enemy... kinda like... well, you can make the connection.

"The President wants us to surrender this state to Martin Luther King and his group of pro-communists who have instituted these demonstrations." -- George Wallace

ETA: While awarding the admirable Mr Wallace an honorary doctorate from his fine institution, Mr Bob Jones Jr said:

"Men who have fought for truth and righteousness have always been slandered, maligned, and misrepresented. The American press in its attacks upon Governor Wallace has demonstrated that it is no longer free, American, or honest. But you, Mr. Governor, have demonstrated not only by the overwhelming victories in the recent elections in your own state of Alabama but also in the showing which you have made in states long dominated by cheap demagogues and selfish radicals that there is still in America love for freedom, hard common sense, and at least some hope for the preservation of our constitutional liberties."

Sounds exactly like... well...

Question: Over the past few years, libs have screamed up and down that they will not force churches to perform homosexual "marriages". How is the response to bills like this anything but preparation for forcing churches to perform homosexual "marriages"?

Good. Business managers should have the right to make business decisions. Let the market determine the winners and losers and not government.
