one of the three most offensive things to US blacks is not the Confederate Battle Flag.

With all due respect - screw 'em.

I have five direct ancestors who fought in for the Confederacy. Not one of them owned a slave. None of their descendents that I know are racists.

I am proud of their honor and dedication to their states. Two of them left body parts on the battlefield. One survived living hell in Camp Douglas for two years. They were all honorable people and are due all the reverence that would be due to a Union soldier.

All these 21st century bad-arse goody two-shoes who cast dishonor on these men piss me off. If any one of them had been alive in that time they would have acted in the same manner - or worse.

I have not identified a single individual on this board who I can imagine in a town square in 1859 South Carolina who would lend their voice to the high and mighty principles they like to spew forth on this 2014 message board.

The only reason they would not have joined the Confederacy would be that they were scared shitless and were too much of a coward.

Oh - I had one direct ancestor who took that route. He refused to fight and hid in the woods. I have no respect for him. He didn't refuse to fight out of principle - it was out of cowardice. Screw him.

I love how, while listing the entire history of your toothless, backwoods genealogy; you impugn the one person in your family who didn't take up arms fighting for the right to continue enslaving an entire race of people.

Oh, The South, how I love your misplaced pride in your shameful past and your unwavering worship of a vagabond Jewish hippie whom you'd have hated had you actually known .

Mine didn't either. He was a farmer and didn't own slaves. His motivation was simply protecting his homeland from invasion.

I think most of us would do that.
