Why would anybody want to display this fact when you know it would rub at least 33% of people who see it the wrong way?

It's not like it's anything to be proud of anyway - "hooray my great great great great great grandfather father fought in a war that he lost".

Perhaps the same reason you didn't stop with your first sentence ... and added another that will likely "rub at least 33%" of this board the wrong way.

Or perhaps because the state offers it and the person wants one.

I didn't get it. I thought it might increase the risk of vandalism to my car.

I got the LSU one instead, which only increases my risk if I park it in Tuscaloosa.
