OT Firefighters I Need Some Help

I'm in need of some advice. I want to become a firefighter and I've taken steps to help with the process (taken civil service, EMT certification). I live in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Shreveport sent out applications in September and I filled it out and mailed it in (was working in West Virginia at the time) but did not hear back on anything until after they had hired. I have friends that work for SFD and they were helping to keep me informed but they didn't hear anything until the department had already picked their class, just like me. Is there anything else I can do to become successful in becoming a firefighter? Any and all help is much appreciated!

start small, volunteer for local squads in whatever capacity you can, sometimes they get grants for school. keep looking.

Apply outside of shreveport as well. Big factor in baton rouge is image. Volunteering with community groups looks good for you.

Dude, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If you want it badly enough, go show up at the local station and introduce yourself and talk with the captain and let him know your desire. Other than that, you are just ink on a piece of paper.

Volunteer, you will get all the training you need through the department. You'll stand out on paper once they see you are 1403 and FF1 certified.
