after a few years (5)they may say they dont care and they probably wont if you dont buy them anything but if you do, then you get extra brownie points.
My wife doesnt expect anything and nor do I, but it's nice when we surprise each other.
FWIW, I've been married 12 years and we still get each other a little something every year.
