I have been an ME for 25 years. In real life you just walk over to the Drafting department and give them this task with a charge code. Don't worry about being great at drawing. You don't need to be to be in real life.

You should be able to visualize a 3d objects from 2d drawings, though.
All classes give you are simple objects like this, then you get a job and you get drawings for entire buildings, rigs , power plants, etc.
