Totally agree with this.

This team could really use a "leader".
JOB is our best player, but he doesn't play with fire consistently. Mickey has been great, but he seems to have a laid back demeanor on the court.
Martin is ultra-talented, but sure seems to play lazy on the court.

I think both Hickey and Stringer play with fire, but are getting abused on defense.

Coleman has probably been our best effort player, but he seems pretty laid back as well.

TQ actually seems to have a little fire, but he just simply isn't ready for this stage yet.

I know it always gets said, next year. But, I truly believe that Hornsby and Gray are going to be Huge additions.

As others have stated, this team gets beat mainly because of effort. Rebounding is usually the first sign. With a front line of Mickey, Martin, and JOB this team should always win or be really close in rebounding numbers.

Well done!

We are still playing with the same guards that came along before the recruiting picked up.

College basketball is a game DOMINATED by guards. That's why Andre Drummond of the Pistons is an NBA force and was largely ignored at UCONN. It's why Shaq never won.

Our guard tandem isn't so special that we can simply be favored in road SEC games and win.

PLUS I know people view our mix of freshman and upperclassmen is an excellent mix, but it isn't

our problem with this team will always be with the teams we SHOULD beat.

Because when your two "experienced" guards like to crank it up from deep and cannot finish; it doesn't lead to us taking high percentage shots.

We should have started Coleman from the start, but doesn't matter.

he is the only starter who can handle the rock and finish. Which is a must in order to win on a consistent basis

Defense is all about effort and scheme. There is no excuse for not blocking out or jumping a double team. I love CJJ but I have serious concerns about his lack of passion. These kids seem to get away with murder, lack of effort, not hustling, and sometime downright lazy. From watching this team in practice and games, CJJ is very easy on these guys and they seem to take advantage of his calm demeanor. Kids react to consequences and a little fear of the coach, our kids have no fear nor urgency. Sometimes a good arse chewing goes a long way with 19 year kid. I have seen it and it works, piss these kids off. You don't need a ton of talent to play good defense

every player at this stage knows the fundamentals of good defense. What separates the poor from the great is desire, hustle and effort from the entire team.

IMO coaches should discipline non-performing players during the game.

If a player is not showing effort, pull him, sit him on the bench and give him "a talking to" . Not berating, or insults like some coaches, but challenging the player to defend with more intensity. If he doesn't do that next time out, pull him again, keep him during offensive possession.

Likewise, if a player makes a defensive mistake pull him too. Sit him down, explain his mistake, make him repeat the coach's instruction, so they know he's got it and send him out again. If he continues to make the same mistake, sit him again.

Players are very motivated when it comes to playing time, they want to be on the court. I can't think of any more effective way to manage defense.

It takes courage for a coach to do this consistently with an individual player. Especially when it's one of your starters. Taking one of those guys out may negatively affect offense, but at the same time it sends a strong message to the player. No defense? Not going out there during offense.

It gives your bench players an opportunity to get out there and think " I'm going to show 'em, I want to earn this spot". Competition is also a great motivator. They'll pay attention to what they're doing.

Although I have seen them pull players to explain a mistake but when it does, I don't see coaches displaying much passion when talking to players.

I think all the really experienced coaches at high profile schools are willing to do this. But it's done earlier in the season, before the important conference games.

I heard Calipari call out his players via the media a few weeks ago. Not sure I agree with that, but it speaks to what I'm trying to convey here.

A player leader should also do the above, demand excellence. Who will step up?

When have you seen a Les Miles team lose a game to a team like Rhode Island?
The loss to Ole Miss was equivalent when you remember how many injuries they had and walkons were playing at some positions.

JJ needs to motivate this team to play fricking defense.. Its that simple

And get JOB3 running wind sprints till he passes out, to learn not to get in foul trouble. Then he is on the bench laughing!!! unbeleivable
