#1. Water.
Can't make it only 3 maybe 4 days w/out H2O.
I keep several cases of bottled water, continually rotating it out. Bottled H2O will keep for 2 years.
I have a several Aqua-tainer for water storage(those big bulky square containers at Wall-marks).
I have a gallon of unscented liquid bleach to kill a lot of the nasties in water BUT liquid bleach begins to degrade after about 6 mths.
Go to a pool shop and get some pool-shock(calcium hypochlorite). A 5 lb bucket of that stuff will last many years to kill virues and bacteria in water.
A few vial of idodine would be good too have or water purification tablets. You can easily carry them in your pocket or BOB if you have to go mobile.
I have a ton of coffee filters but I also have several soft polishing clothes or 'cheese cloth'. That will filter out a lot the larger particles in water.
Get a good MANUAL water filtration system. Power or electricity may not be restored for weeks or months or maybe never(Mad-Max scenorio).
Sawyer is about the top of the line system you can buy. Other good systems are Big Berkey, Katadyn and Monolithic
A person can get extremely ill by drinking contaminated water so that is why is so important to.
Other things, lots of guns and ammo.
Food like Mountain House freeze dried food, canned tuna & salmon, corned-beef hash(lots of protein, carbs, and fats), Dinty Moore soups, salt & pepper...
Rice and lintile beans(easier to cook) stored in food-grade buckets. A Coleman stove and lots of propane cylinders.
Medical supplies and several 1st Aid reference books. Also reference books of medical procedures
Toilet paper, soap, toothpaste & toothbrushes, axes & hatchets. Lots of hand tools like saws, screw drivers, pliers...
Gardening tools like shovels, rakes and hoes...and yes, Legacy seeds. Seeds from hybrids will grow food, legacy seeds are a must...
