My old man tried to enter Canada with a pistol back in the 1980's. The border guy must have known. he told me dad to show him the gun or they were gonna tear the car apart looking for it.
My old man showed him. They confiscated it and then offered it back if he paid a fine (which he did). Then the agent told him about a drop ship operation at a store on the US side who would ship the weapon back home to you.
It was my grandfather's gun which I still have today. Glad we did not lose it. Of course we never did actually enter Canada with it, tried to though.
