They can but it is hard. My family has killed 5 so far. We are pretty much done trying.
My dad's got big too. Never any fruit so he was glad when the freeze killed it.

I figured I would keep it in a BIG pot/barrel so it couldn't get too big and then I would just cover it w/ a tarp or big blanket during cold weather?
