The right thing to do was apologize and just move on from it. Not a big deal in my view, but to some it may be. Hopefully nothing more comes from it.
There is most definitely a double standard, so just keep your head down and work through it. A couple of years back at my old firm I got a closed fist blindside by an intoxicated female co-worker who had a crush on me when she saw me talking some girl up at a non-work function. I didn't say a word, but she ended up telling the whole office about it. Lots of jokes at my expense: "Jort's clients sure are having a hard time with this recession, but he'll be OK. We all know he can take a hit." I just brushed it off, but want to guess what would have happened if I hit her, even if I intoxicated?
