Really? Then I really feel sorry for you or anyone that works in this kind of environment. It's pretty common in the south, especially in a professional environment in the oilfield. Terms like this are used all the time by men, women, old and young. Nothing sexual or demeaning about using the term "Honey"

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's correct.
I'm from the south as well and have worked in office settings before I was a nurse and I can assure you this wasn't normal behavior.

If you have even just a little social intelligence, it's not hard to figure out what is appropriate in a work environment.
I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not being able to call women I don't know "honey".
That might be fine in the oil field. It's not in a bank, physicians office, law firm, etc. That's where the social intelligence comes in to play.
