I'm looking to purchase one soon.

For those of you that would know more about this than I do, what should I be looking for as far as brand names? Give me some recommendations and some links if you can.

I have a Bose 301 speaker system and receiver that I will want to plug it into so we can hear it throughout the house.

I picked one up at Salvation Army for $50. Still had the original receipt from when it was purchased in 1970 ($300 then). It's in a big console that takes up a lot of space. I don't know if I could ever hook it up to an external speaker system, but I like the sound. Reminds me of when I was a kid listening to my grandfather's.

If you're not looking to spend over a grand on a turntable, I recommend the Audio-Technica turntable I purchased a few years back. I still love it. LINK
However, I recommend that you replace the cartridge. I installed an Shure M97xE phono cartridge and the sound quality was significantly better. LINK

Should sound divine with those bose speakers.

Get a Crosley, but not the suitcase one that these guys bought at Urban Outfitters.

I recently bought my first turntable, an Audio-Technica from FYE for about $80. It's definitely not the best, but it's a great entry level turntable. I've had it for about 5 months, and it's worked great so far. I have it hooked up to a Sherwood reciever and two Pioneer bookshelf speakers. It's pretty low end, but it works well. I plan to upgrade soon though.
