Here's what happened:

I have always been a huge fan of Office Space, and have seen it probably at least 50 times. Watched when it first was on VHS when I was 13, watched it after I had my first job, watched thru college, post college, everything. Could quote the movie word for word at one point in my life.

Watched today on HBO, and realized for the first time that Milton took the money before burning initech.

Assumed that it burned up as peter said, but realized Milton is talking about his travelers cheques at the last scene.

Anyone have a favorite or top movie that took them a long time to realize a simple fact?

I know somebody who watched it about that many times and never realized Milton was Stephen Root

Not sure this qualifies, but I remember as a kid watching Back to the Future over and over. I had watched it so many times, but it wasn't until watching the ending one afternoon that I realized it said To Be Continued at the end. I remember noticing that for the first time and shouting, "wait, there's going to be another back to the future movie?!!!" Very exciting moment let me tell you!

Turns out that last little "To Be Continued" shot was added just for the video release. Took me a while to notice it on VHS I guess. Still waiting on my hoverboard btw.

I'd have to think really hard.

Only a minor one comes to mind currently.

The first time I watched Breaking Bad I thought Skyler was helping Ted cook the books before she found out about Walt's double life. This supposed fact caused me to really hate her character for the rest of the series because of her seemingly hypocritical nature.

Re-watching the episode a few days ago, I realize now that Skyler helps cook the books after she figures out Walt's secret life. Her decision makes a little more sense now.

I could probably find a lot of little things about the show that I initially missed. The fake eye that Walt finds in the swimming pool. Somehow I completely missed connecting the visual motif throughout season 2 and thought it was an actual person's fake eye.

Until the last time I saw it, I didn't know Forrest Gump's mom had sex with the school principal to get him into school.

It took me years to catch that when Forrest is paying his respects to Bubba, he is doing his Ping Pong Paddle pitch.

How did you think he got money to go to the islands?

I thought Incredible Hulk was a sequel. The montage at the beginning seemed like it was just rehashing the first movie.

Not a movie one, but I was watching Rugrats the other day and realized "You know, those parents never watch their kids. They always let them slip away"

Here's one - that may even have been unintentional on the filmmakers' part:

I've seen Risky Business - give or take, a dozen times over the past 30 years. After about 6 or 7 times, the lightbulb went on -

They're waiting at the shop, after the 928 has been extracted from Lake Michigan - the mechanic says, "Who's the U-Boat commander?"

Fine - I got that the car was underwater right away - but it was a German car - so, 6 or 7 viewings, and probably the same number of years, later - FINALLY - I got it.

So this is both "Germans" AND I was a dumbass - and really no excuse, because I was also a history major.

I watched Poltergeist countless times as a youth. It wasn't until I was watching it one day in my late 20s that I realized the Freelings are smoking a joint in the bedroom when Craig T. Nelson starts doing the before/after routine in the mirror.

I also realized that I wanted to bang the wife.

Been watching Home Alone my whole life. It was only until this past Christmas that I realized that while cleaning up the aftermath of the pizza incident at the beginning of the movie that they accidentally threw Kevin's ticket away.

Anything that has Gary Oldman. He gets me every time. He'll play a pretty major role in the film and I won't recognize him and the whole time I'll be going "who IS that one dude?".
