I think a lot of the internet mockery is from people who didn't realize this (I didn't, until today). Pictures look like, and most early news only mentioned snow, and not much of it, by Northern standards.
Ice is terrifying to anybody, and even if you're too stupid to be scared shitless by driving on it, physics will prevent you from doing anything worthwhile, anyway.
If you see me laughing at anybody in Georgia or Alabama for the next couple of days, please mentally add "except for the ice, of course, that stuff sucks" to anything I say.

I'm sure all those jackknifed 18 wheelers were drivers that had never seen "a couple of inches of snow."
The problem was ice + pile ups = gridlock.
But of course no one down here knows how to drive in that shite. Why would we?
