If you publically proposed in a plain-spoken and definitive manner, that it is more virtuous to work and be self-reliant than to be idle and reliant on a handout, you would be roundly criticized by all the usual suspects.

A generation ago it was assumed. Now you would be defamed if you made such a claim. It's the Death of Reason and The Fruition of Liberalism. They go hand in hand. They are inexorably linked.

I'm being completely serious here. I honestly don't think anyone of any importance or credibility would criticize someone for advocating a strong work ethic. I think one might be criticized if they suggested that all poor people are poor because they're lazy, but that's a different issue.
