Monty quote on Tyreke after Magic game.

quote:
"He has that ability, he just has to continue to improve," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "The one thing he does better than most guys in the NBA is he gets to the basket. Now he's got to understand that when he goes and three or four guys show up, he has got to find. But to have the kind of line he had it's a great complement to AD (Anthony Davis) and Eric (Gordon). For us to have a chance to win, we've got to have three guys basically step up and have numbers like that."

I find Monty's lack of trust in Tyreke a bit surprising.
We're paying the guy 11M for 25 minutes per game? I hope that wasn't the plan when we made the move for him.
Also, fwiw, Tyreke scores more per 48 than Gordon.
Evans-24.8
Gordon-23.4

Tyreke has been great this year. Monty's rotations baffle me to no end.

Where do you get lack of trust from that quote?
And injuries have played a significant role in his lack of minutes.

Evans can actually score at will and create his own shot, and brings many things to the table offensively. Therefore can only play an average to below average number of minutes per game
I believe this is referred to as the Marcus Thornton Theorem of basketball rotations, a theory devised and used frequently by Monty Williams

Admittedly we have no idea how close to healthy he is. We legitimately seem to be trying to win, and I'm starting to wonder if Jrue/Ryno will be back this year when I initially thought "no way in hell".
Regardless, the way Monty spreads his minutes is somewhat baffling. I've said it before, you bring him in at the 3min mark in the 1st and 3rd, he has to play 15min stretches in a row just to make it to the 30 mark. 15 minute stretches hardly seem smart if he isn't 100% so I'm really not sure what the strategy is.
It'd be better to bring him in at the 7-8 minute mark, let him take a breather to start the 2nd/4th with EG on the floor, and bring him back in during the official timeout in the 2nd/4th.
That's how I'd do it. I don't like the idea of Tyreke being on his 13-15th minute on the floor during the most important part of the games.
