Had one of the motherfrickers appear on the bow of a skiff off Kodiak in '89. Big sumbitch only 4 feet from me. Made the skiff lean forward.
Startled me shitless and I pointed my 870 at it. Damn thing bit the barrel, but I didn't fire because I heard of all the legal hell someone else recently went through when they shot one of these bastards (this was during the ExxonValdez spill and everyone one hypersensitive to critters).
The fricker let go and slid overboard. Left marks on the barrel.
