okay here is my arguement

bo jackson
nfl--
number 1 pick
2782 rushing yds 16tds
352 receiving yds 2td

mlb---
598 hits
141 hrs
.250 avg
82 stolen bases

deion sanders nfl--
number 5 pick
53 ints
1332 int return yds and 9 tds
(also played wide receiver) 784 rec yds 3tds
3523 kick return yards 3 tds
2199 punt return yards 6tds

mlb--
558 hits
263 avg
39 hrs
181 stolen bases

so to say bo was a phenom in both sports and deion wasnt is insane! Deion played offense, defense, spec teams, and major league baseball.. not to mention only player to play in superbowl and world series! How is he not more well rounded so to speak

Bo also shared a backfield with an all pro back in his short NFL career. Had he not gotten hurt he would have curb-stomped Deion's careers in both sports. If you want to compare careers, obviously Deion had the better careers, but if you're comparing the athlete, Bo at his best was head and shoulders above Deion at his best. It's not even remotely close

When someone says something like best athlete, physical attributes are what comes to mind for me. Stats are almost irrelevent because they better measure how good someone is at a game, not necessarily the physical attributes. Peyton Manning has insane stats because he is great at the game of football, not because he really has the absolute top of the world physical attributes.

That said, the fact that Deion and Bo were able to play multiple sports at a high level suggests a versatility of physical abilities and coordination. I don't think that there is necessarily a wrong answer because it all depends on how you subjectively weigh things, but I think that Bo's combination of speed and strength make him a superior athlete to Deion.

Not to mention Sanders led the MLB in triples in 92. Played in a World Series.

Hit a HR and scored a touchdown in the same week!!!

NFL record for returns for TD. Super Bowls.

Not only did he play both for a long time, he excelled at them.
