Soderbergh made a good point earlier in a talk this year that Hollywood gets remakes wrong.
He said that Hollywood always remakes well regarded or mostly successful films. But that there are ton of great ideas and great stories that were poorly executed or poorly handled and could probably deserve a remake.
Not only would it be something "more new," but the content is there already to use.
We don't see those films enough to know what would be worthwhile.
I'd say The 10th Victim though. That could be fun.

A full theatrical release of IT, The Stand, or The Talisman.

Never thought of that, but it's a good point. Don't give the supermodel a makeover, give the makeover to the dorky shy girl. I'm sure they're worried about the remake having the same stigma as the original flop, but it makes sense that you should adapt something with good potential but failed execution.
As such, I like someone's suggestion of Water World. Every time it comes on I want to love that movie, just has so much potential IMO, but never makes it there.
