With a byzantine set of election laws and tax laws to employ against political enemies,
it's obvious that those who want to beat the progressive democrat machine are going to have to learn and employ the same cheats they do.
This is to be expected when you move away from a "rule of law" and toward a "rule of man" culture.
ETA: he should have hired a retired dem to coach him on how to do this without getting caught.

People that watch fox news or post fox news stories, should be ignored.

Was going to see if DNCNBC had anything.

That's one lesson to be drawn. Another is "if you can't do the time don't do the crime."

20k seems like a pretty small amount. I'm guessing there are some big dogs doing way worse with way more.

Bingo! You said it right. Problem is nearly half of Americans are 'sucking' from that government 'tit' and the 'funny money' just keeps on flowing.
We are a nation in steep decline. A victim of 100 years of progessive liberal policies, the military-industrial complex and an out-of-control Federal Reserve. We are flat broke and running [mostly] on borrowed money. We are living an illusion.
Ron Paul was right.

This is actually terrible darkhorse.
What's really terrible is that these laws exist at all and are arbitrarily applied. Basically they're a political hammer for the party in power.
That being said I would bet he gets nailed on the lying to investigators which is also a terrible law. Seems that this is the most common hammer of fed prosecutors now, especially when they have trouble proving the main case. And this one could be difficult...money could have been given to friends/family for myriad reasons. How do you prove those specific dollars went to campaign contributions?

You are exactly right. Do you think the GOP is going to go after those that illegally donated money for them when they get power? It is a stupid law.

"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." ...but we're getting closer every single passing day
Having read the thread...this is what sticks out to me. The Progs have took the gloves off and are blatantly using the Law to persecute their political opposition. So, it'll be like Obama and marijuana...whatever the high ups allow, it'll filter down through the masses.
I suspect that what is going to happen, sooner or later...the *Law* will jump on a character that is willing to go the martyrdom route, and they'll create a nasty and highly public episode which brings to light this abuse of power. And like with the revolts in Egypt and Syria...it'll be the catalyst for the dominos beginning to fall.
What will be interesting to see...is which Ideology ends up with power, and WHICH "bastards" end up getting shot.
Jefferson was right about that 'tree of liberty'. Smart dude.

So, every arrest or indictment now of a Republican proves to you that the Obama Administration is "blatantly using the Law to persecute their political opposition."
Better not post on these boards, RCD.

No matter who is in charge, it is clear that these overly complex laws are ripe for abuse.
They are dangerous to all of us no matter our political affiliation.

Haven't even read the article and don't intend to, but a few things come to mind:
(1) If he is guilty of a crime, he obviously can be charged as such...there is no controversy there;
(2) I wonder why he was investigated in the first place;
(3) Relative to Eric Holder refusing to enforce immigration laws, drug laws and refusing to recognize a SCOTUS decision on gay marriage in Utah...and given the fact that they had to know that tin foil hat accusations would come from indicting a man that made a movie that would be detrimental to Obama, it seems as though prosecutorial discretion would have come into play here as well; and
(4) Sometimes I think Obama and his cabinet and advisors are just trolling the right because they can - nothing more, nothing less.

Pretty much. Once you get that selective enforcement stank on you, it's hard to get off.
