LSU players leaving early for the NFL

There have been a few threads discussing the merits of leaving early for the NFL and a lot of posters discuss how it is a sign of the times and this kids can't pass up these paydays. People have showed examples like the Freak this year that has a kid living in the projects and wants to provide for their family and I forgot the player last year who had a couple of kids but that was their reason also. I posted a while back comments from a long time friend who is the draft coordinator for an NFL team here on the west coast that basically stated most of the players coming out early are making mistakes and should remain in school to improve their draft stock. And if you are not projected to go in the 1st or 2nd round the chances of you staying and making it in the NFL are extremely remote. There was an article in NOLA "i think that is where it was written" that gave the percentages of players being selected in the 3rd round or later in the NFL draft making it to their 2nd contract and those percentages were horrible. Any early entrant looking at those percentages and knowingly opt to enter the draft if they are projected 3rd round or worse, it seems are just making poor decisions.
There are definitely exceptions to everything but it seems the players at Alabama are getting and definitely listening to some pretty good advice, I wish some of our players like "Turner, Johnson & Ego" would have gone the Bama route of declaring if they are projected to go in the top 2 rounds instead of the trend that is going on at LSU over these past 2 years.

Our players need to take a page out of their play book and stay to improve their draft stock for next year, which gives them a better percentage of making it in the NFL.

Alabama’s had 13 players go pro early under Saban, and 11 of them have been first-round picks. That’s a terrific batting average, a product of players getting good advice and, for the most part, following it.

I automatically 'Dude. Bro.' every time I see one of dude's threads. And it's always warranted.

quote:Well thats an absurd conclusion. The players are not failing to make it in the NFL because they were drafted 3rd round or later. They are getting drafted that late because they don't have what it takes to make it in the NFL (or at the least, are far less likely to make it). Your conclusion is axiomatically backwards.

Furthermore, the NFL always wants as many people to stay in college as long as possible. The NCAA is essentially a free training program for the NFL, so I find it difficult to believe that your buddy's opinion isn't biased

There are a million ways to analyze it and that is definitely one way to look at it. The axiom is it probably is more beneficial for the player to stay in school and to improve their skill set and hopefully improve their draft status for the following year. It is kind of amazing to me that even though the Gumps have just as much NFL talent as we do they seem to be doing a better job at keeping the underclassmen in school.
It is hard to argue with these stats "Alabama’s had 13 players go pro early under Saban, and 11 of them have been first-round picks. That’s a terrific batting average, a product of players getting good advice and, for the most part, following it." that Bama is not doing a better job keeping their talent on campus longer than LSU. You can argue who it benefits more the school, the NFL but maybe, just maybe it actually is beneficial to all parties.

Of course it is biased, but that doesn't mean it is wrong. First thing my friend stated is that there exceptions to everything, but for the most part unless you are drafted in the first 2 rounds of the draft as an underclassmen you stand a better chance of improving your draft status and statistically improving your chances of making it in the NFL by completing your eligibility in the NFL.
The numbers don't lie, they are what they are. Does that mean you will not be successful if you are drafted in the 3rd or later if you are an underclassmen? Obviously not, but statistically your chances are much lower that is for sure.

as far as I know everybody who could left left early for Alabama this year I'm too lazy to check them out individually

This means shite. Some of these players will never be drafted in the first round. And sometimes solely based on their position.
So let's say you don't make it.... what is the diff in delaying that? If you aren't going to make it in the NFL, how will one year change that?
Let's look at AJ mccarron. He was never going to be a 1st rnd pick. He should have came out last year coming off back to back titles. Now he has 2 losses hey played poorly in, and then snubbed the sr bowl. His draft stock has actually fallen now.

There are exceptions to everything and this is no different, each situation needs to be looked at individually, but do you actually believe it wouldn't benefit Turner not to come back. You don't think he could improve his draft status next year?

That is the whole point, delaying if you do make it makes no since. But if you don't make it, staying in school and graduating first makes more FINANCIAL sense. You still will play for "however many years" in the NFL and you end up graduating from college, on the schools dime, where you can use your degree after football is over.

Again exceptions to everything.
