I'm not plugged into SMU at all but last year it was not exactly a secret that the boosters went to war about Jones. Some don't think they can do better but at $2m annually, they definitely could imo.

The concern seems to be if they went and hired an up and comer like Chad Morris that he'd bolt for a bigger gig in a few years. With Jones, he's probably done with that. I don't get that thought process, especially since Jones took the ASU job last year, but that seems to be where they are. They want their own Gary Patterson who will stay for 10-15 years.

I think my thinking is in line with yours.

If June was only making something like $1million per, I'd think he would deserve some slack. But he isn't. He is making more than several BCS conference coaches. While they made those bowls, they have only beat a few teams under Jones that had winning records and whenever they play BCS schools they get dominated.

I also don't understand why they would worry about a Chad Morris leaving. So what? Coahces leave. Its rare to get a lifer at big time school let aone at a place like SMU. Get the young gun to get things really humming so they will be able to grab the next good young regional coaching hire the way Houston did with Briles -> Sumlin ->Levine. That is a way more realistic approach than doubling down on a guy that already tried to run out on them and doesn't give a flip about recruiting.

It's just sad to watch.
