Disagree. Kit is not meant to know it was on purpose.

So she spends all movie trying to prove herself and get out of her sisters shadow, and when she finally does, it's a gift? Nah

Once again, this is not Kits story. Its Dotties.

Dottie realizes after she hits the shot up the middle for the go ahead run that she's ruining her sisters life. She came back because of her competitiveness, but ultimately she realized that it doesn't matter to her. She beats her sister again, and Dottie will still wake up tomorrow and go home. If Kit loses, her dream is dead.

If Marshall (and IDGAF what she says about it now) wanted us to know Dottie dropped it on purpose she would have made it clear in the movie. In the movie, everything that leads to that moment shows us that Dottie had every intention of beating her sister.

There is nothing in the movie that says otherwise. Every opinion in the "dropped it on purpose" camp comes from intangible things that can't be supported by things that actually happen in the movie.

See this is where I disagree. I think it's about their relationship. Kit is the most emotional and volatile character in the movie. The movie is increasingly tense as their rivalry intensifies (mostly from Kit). Kit is completely consumed with it by the end. Dottie is increasingly confused and unsatisfied. The tension mounts and mounts until Kit finally wins. She finally had what it took to beat her sister. It's a passing the torch type of story. It's about honor, competition, and desire. All those things are sullied if Dottie dropped it on purpose. If that's what Marshall intended then I'd say her film was poorly executed.
