Honestly, I think Schiano needed more time in Tampa. If not for Lovie Smith, he probably gets it. It is embarrassing that teams fire coaches every 2 years, especially first time NFL head coaches.

If you hire a first time NFL head coach, you need to give him 5 years, at least.

The players hated playing for him. That isn't going to change with time.

They hated playing for him

I think it could possibly work if he had a GM that wasn't brand new like he had in Tampa, both guys were brand new (no idea WTF the Glazers were doing 2 years ago when you see how they are handling everything right now so well lol)

I tend to agree with him getting time if Lovie wasn't available

You saw some guys right off the bat that wanted out immediately (Kellen Winslow Jr, Micheal Bennett) after he was hired, Bennett gave him a chance for a yr

Pete Carroll isn't even close to the same level of intensity Schiano had. I think if he had a GM with a lot of experience and connects to put together a good NFL staff it might work for him. There is a lot of talent in Tampa and people are gonna see that this next year with Lovie.

I don't think you'll find anyone to corroborate that claim. The team did play a little bit better in the 2nd half. Most of that was the stability of having Glennon over Freeman.

But, it's a stretch to say that it was an emotional response to get behind Sciano. By all accounts, the players didn't like him.

I remember when Mike Lombardi was hired as their GM.

I liked to hear what he had to say on the various shows he appeared on whether it was on the NFL Network or Inside the NFL as an analyst.

but what in the hell is he doing?

There is nothing linking Schiano to Cleveland. This thread should have been deleted days ago.

If I were a browns fan, I think this might just be the straw that breaks the camels back.

I haven't heard anything about this from the local media. Browns seem to be interested in Denver OC, Seattle DC, perhaps the Bills' DC (word is they were really impressed with his first interview and he is supposed to come back for a second), and possibly Josh McDaniels (Patriots OC).

This may drag on till after Super Bowl. In meantime, they seem to be bringing in other candidates just to keep fans interested in the process.

We have reached desperations levels.

quote:

So let's update the Browns' wishlist.

Adam Gase (Nope)
Josh McDaniels (Nah)
Todd Bowles (No)
Ken Whisenhunt (Took the Tennessee job)
Ben McAdoo (Went to the Giants)
Bill O'Brien (Took the Texans gig)
James Franklin (Would rather stay in college)
Gus Malzahn (Lolno)
Mike Pettine (Interviewed, still pending)
Mike Munchak (Interviewed, still pending)
Rich Bisaccia (Interviewed, still pending)
Dan Quinn (Interviewed, still pending, Browns front office praying he says yes)

Basically, it's Quinn or bust. And if the Browns wait out the Seahawks' DC, there's a good chance Pettine, Bisaccia (both already have jobs), and Munchak (has interviewed elsewhere) will be off the market by Feb. 3. There are no in-house candidates with head coaching experience (and the assistants remaining probably aren't happy about not being allowed to interview elsewhere last year).

at least they aren't hiring a former failed NFL Head Coach like most teams do.

Meh. I'll happily take Lovie Smith over anyone the Browns can get right now.

In 9 seasons for the Bears, he made the playoffs 3 times. He's a pretty mediocre coach, IMO. He is assembling a very high profile staff in TB with some big name coaches. I see him having a similar career in TB. He'll win 55% of his games, make the playoffs a few times and make the playoffs a few times. But, he just oozes mediocrity.

Nobody in NJ is talking about this and Schiano is always in the news if there were rumors.
