Common sense is better than any law IMO. I also believe most parents care for the welfare of their children.

Most of the stories I've read when an infant dies in a car has more to do with the parents breaking routine. For instance the father having to take them to daycare when normally the mother does...and somehow the father forgets and leaves the kid in his car all day. That happened in La. recently. I can't imagine how he will ever forgive himself.

It takes a second to smash a window and take a kid. Why would I take that chance?

Have a better chance of winning the lottery for something like that to happen plus waaay to many people like the OP minding my business that would scare off any child snatching assailant.

My mom did it all the time when I was a kid. Me bro and sis sitting in hot arse car in the summer time. This was back in the 70s.

We would turn the radio radio all the way up and cut on the wipers. When she cranked up the car the radio would would scare the crap out of her. It pissed her off and we would laugh our arse off. Payback.

Really?

Yes, REALLY. No way in hell should you leave a child in the car by itself for any reason other than maybe to run back inside to grab something if you are at home. No fricking way do you do it at a store in Methville USA. If you can't take your child in with you to grab your smokes, you don't deserve to have that child since its obviously too much of a burden on you to care for them properly.

Yep still shitty. Leave the car running? So that a toddler can jump around and hit the gearshift? There's a reason it's against the law.
We're you raised in a fricking bubble?

As a mother of two under the age of 3 if I need to run into a store in less than 2 minutes and my baby is asleep I damn sure will leave her in the car, lock all doors, and make sure I can see her at all times

As a father of a 1 year old, I will never leave him if I can't see the him. I will never leave him if I was going too far to not be able run a predator down. My son can see out of the car window so I just park right by the door and keep eye contact with him. Also, I was buying food, not booze and smokes.

you don't deserve to have that child
Lol, ok. People are such sissies nowadays. Are you going to let your kid ride a bike? Climb a tree? Shoot fireworks? Rough house?

When did this "you can't leave your kid alone for two seconds in a vehicle" start?

Probably smokes with the kid in the car too.
That's definitely illegal in LA. And trashy.
