Or, maybe that was just a different species altogether or a mutation.

How do they know that it was a transitional species?

It is amazing how every little thing that they find then changes the whole perspective and now they think something different. 20 years from now, we will find out that it wasn't what they thought it was and well, nevermind, but hey! That's Science and anyone who doesn't believe it is an idiot.

Science is pretty amazing. Every detail discovered can drastically alter our perception.

Well, in this case it is what it is.
In this case what it is, is Science.

I'll leave "idiot" assessments to others.
However, regardless of belief, it would seem folks should not reject out of hand that which they can see and touch.

The OP is such an example.
