Next year I am moving my 10 year old up to this. Great rifle, adjustable length stock, adjustable trigger, guaranteed to shoot under 1 inch at 100 yds, and priced under 500.00 online. I am going with the 7mm-08 but 243 is another option.

When he shoots the 30-30, give him a fun target to shoot. Fill gallon jugs with water so they explode. I find that helps them worry less about recoil in that situation.

That's a good choice for sure
My dad used to buy life sized deer posters for me to shoot. Did me tons of good as it was more fun than shooting at a dot and he was able to teach me where to shoot and why to shoot there.
