FYI

AT&T now has a daily international plan. $10 per day with unlimited use and you only pay on days that you use it. You don't have to purchase the monthly Passport Plan anymore without the severely restricted use.

If you are going to Japan, the safer bet is to go with the pocket wifi. It is both cheaper + likely to have the correct cell tower bands for Japan

Verizon has the same, but I passed on it and just bought a local sim card when I went to Spain. So glad I did because it saved me $175.

$10/day for 3 weeks would've ran me $210. I paid $20 for a pre-loaded sim card, then another $15 to reload it later on.

The only downfall is it changes your number. That didn't matter to me though because I mainly wanted internet and I communicated with WhatsApp.
