Another pass-catcher from the Shipley family will be playing on Saturdays. This one, however, is heading to Baton Rouge.
Marble Falls junior Hanner Shipley announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he had verbally committed to LSU. A six-foot-five-inch, 260-pound tight end, Shipley will be LSU's first signee from the Austin area since Round Rock's Alex Russian in 2007.
Shipley is the third junior from the Austin area who has verbally committed to a collegiate football program. Hays offensive lineman Connor Lanfear (Texas) and Round Rock defensive lineman Breylin Mitchell (LSU) have also announced their future plans.
Shipley played on Marble Falls Faith's six-man football team as a freshman, but he moved over to Marble Falls High and played on the defensive line during an injury-shortened sophomore season. Shipley returned to Marble Falls Faith in 2013, and he helped lead the Flames to a 10-1 record in the school's second season as an 11-man football program.
Shipley had 20 receptions in 2013, and he recorded 310 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. He also blocked on an offense that produced two 1,000-yard rushers.
If Shipley's name sounds familiar, it should. Shipley's cousins - Jordan and Jaxon - have both been wide receivers at the University of Texas. Jordan Shipley still owns the state's career receiving yards and touchdown reception records that he set at Burnet.
