Lane Kiffin has a career record of 35-21 as coach of Tennessee and USC. (USATSI)Former Southern California head coach Lane Kiffin is interviewing for the Alabama offensive coordinator job as early as Thursday, according to a source.

Kiffin will visit Tuscaloosa for the interview but won't be alone in the running for the job. A long list of NFL suitors should be involved for a coveted job to replace Doug Nussmeier, who is now Michigan's offensive coordinator.

The 38-year-old Kiffin, who went a combined 35-21 as coach of Tennessee and USC, visited Alabama during bowl prep as a consultant/observer.

Kiffin runs a pro-style offense, which fits with Saban's style of ball control and a physical running game. But Saban has said recently that he's open to upping the tempo to adapt to attack defenses.

Alabama would be a stable landing strip for the embattled Kiffin, who has already held three major head-coaching jobs. One of Kiffin's former employers, Tennessee, plays host to the Crimson Tide on Oct. 25.

The best part of this is going to be the BAMA fans that are going to try to justify this. I wish I can pull up the posts about him when he was at Tennessee.

This guy is a complete fricking douchebag and the BAMA fans are going to welcome him with open arms. I saw Capstone trying to justify it last night. Saying Kiffin was an amazing OC in 05 with USC. Well, no shite. Look who was on that team to go along with probably the 2nd best college RB to ever play the game.

At the same time, Kiffin is going to fit right in with this program. Complete lack of humility and complete sense of entitlement. You guys deserve each other. Douchebag with douchebag. Perfect.

Saban knows recruiting is waaay more important than anything else in college football.

Kiffin is as good as hired IMO.

Too bad Saban doesn't allow assistants to be interviewed with the media.

Not good for LSU. Stud recruiter and more than competent playcaller and QB coach

This is a pretty big step in Saban's process of creating a Mordor here in the USA.

Kiffin would be a good hire IMO. He was a disaster as a head coach, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good coordinator. And he's a helluva recruiter too. e's not suited to be a head coach, but I think he'd flourish as a OC.

Kiffin to Bama is not a good thing for those jumping for joy saying he's a cancer!

I hope Kiffin gets the job.
He will do well at an established program like Bama.
He was given the Shula treatment at USC.
I thought he was on the way to doing well at Tennessee.
His NFL HC coaching experience can only help in recruiting.
