I have 3 kids in school in Houston.
I have walked into a number of High Schools here in Houston and there is always a big LSU flag in the main hallways. At a middle school that I am often at, there is an LSU day and the LSU fight song is played in between classes while kids are walking to class.
Also, there is always HS kids wearing LSU gear.
It is very rare that I see kids wearing gear from SEC schools other than Texas A&M and LSU.

This year Region 1 was really strong in the 4A/5A classification. Taking 3 out 4 @ state. 4 out of 4 if you count Allen who is basically from the Region 1 area. DFW had premiere talent this year. Not to say Houston talent isn't great because it is. But DFW was really good.

I have a family member that is a coach at a Houston ISD HS and he tells me, at least at his school, Bama gets a lot of play. His POV was their school was about a 3-way split between A&M/UTx/Bama with schools like LSU and Auburn behind and no one caring about any other Big 12 schools.

Apparently a big reason is Bama has been offering in-state tuition to a lot of kids that can't get into the Texas state schools because of the 8% rule.

Yeah looks like Tony Upchurch and his family/friends are big LSU fans. Make sense since he shut down his recruitment right after committing last year. No other schools even had a chance.
