I'd say he's down, don't give up yet. I have that problem with my 7 mag. If I don't DRT them or shoulder hit them then its a very little blood trail.
Hope you don't have the same problem we have at our place though. Last week we had to come back the next morning to find an 11 pt. All that was left was the antlers and head, Yogi and his bear brothers got him good.
