I think that it has a lot to do with your personality. I hate working out around other people, so this works really well for me. (I have a home office, so I just do it during lunch or after work.)
Also, I am the type that when I start something, I have to finish it. So, even if I am dragging arse or I don't feel like working out, or whatever, if I can just force myself to put on gym shorts and put the dvd in, then it is almost like I HAVE to finish it.
If you are like that, you won't quit. You'll get better and better and start to try to best your previous performance.
If you are prone to say "f--- it" in the middle of something once it gets difficult, then you will quit P90X before you even get started. I'd suggest a personal trainer to keep you motivated, if you are like this.
I know it sounds cliche, but the 1st week of P90X (or any of them) is BY FAR the hardest - esp. mentally. It gets a lot easier in week 2 and then by week 3, it is almost 2nd nature.
And, they say this a lot in the DVD's, but don't be afraid to modify the workouts. If you can't go as hard as they do, dial it back and then try to get better on the next one.
