I'm about to have to put my 10.5 yr old Great Dane down. Wife and kid have petted on her all afternoon and the hole is dug. I'm just waiting till the 4yr old goes to bed now.
My question is.... will a 22LR w/ CCI hollow point be sufficient to do the job immediately or should I go bigger to make sure she doesnt suffer? All day i had planned onm using the 22 but am now second guessign myself.

.22, but being a Great Dane make sure the dog is in the hole already.

Be damn sure. Use a noose.

I'm not a fan of hollow points for shooting things in the head, but it'll work.
Load more than one bullet.

It would be worth it to me to pay the vet. Don't think I could pull the trigger on a family member...

My dad used to say to take his favorite meat dish out in the woods with the dog. Pet him, let him chow down and do the deed while he is having that feast.
