I expected Freak, the young linebackers, and the secondary to be better.
I guess what I'm saying is I expected the whole defense to be better.

I didn't expect to get blown out by Bama, and I thought our defense wouldn't have fallen off as much as they did.

This has to be our winner.

Specifically, I thought that they would develop more consistently but instead the developed kinda inconsistently but still showed improvements throughout the year. I blame the inconsistencies on our player's youth, especially at Cb to go along with a shallow DL and LBs who got blocked out when their opponent could get adequate blockers down field. This led to the chief toning down our basic four man pass rush into a more contain oriented attack that helped them keep the RBs better contained.

Their inconsistencies also reminded me how difficult it is to be as dominant on defense at a champ level. The D has to be dominant at almost every position in the back seven and at least half of them up front.

I do have faith in them now that they can play more consistently in this bowl game but I am left hoping that we don't lose our best D Linemen next year because we will have the same issues with quality band depth there once again.
