I have a camp in lower Cameron Parish and we have a ton of coyotes this year. More than i can ever remember. They primarily stay on the Ridge and rarely cross Hwy 82. Now I have a prarie behind my camp that i have heard them running in. What would be an ideal place to set some foot traps? Also how would you secure the trap if out in an open area?

In an open area where the ground isn't hard enough to use rebar stakes I use a drag. A drag can be a log or a branch to wire the traps to. There are some commercial drags but I haven't used any. once caught just follow it's tracks it will hang on something. I would just scout for some trails and try to find some poop. Coyote are funny because they also use their scat to communicate with other coyote. Or that's what the biologists say. I just know that if you find their poop and set close to it one will come.
