Sure, computers can be programmed to do these simple tasks you speak of. But should they be allowed to 'choose' teams worth given they obviously never set an eye on a football game?
Of course not, and thusly should only be used as an arbitray reference point in a summation of value regarding football teams because otherwise we're left with nothing more than some geek's concept of what a good football team truly is.
Use computers as they were intended, a tool of man. Most certainly not the other way around. Duh

Eliminate the cross conference play. Eliminate the cupcake games out of conference.
Shorten the schedule for playoff purposes.
Let the conference champs proceed to the playoffs (4 top)... Let the runner up to each conference (4) and any smaller school with a beaut of a record come into play (top 2 of them) play a tougher play off schedule (like a wild card NFL)... OR #3 with 2 loss and SOS...... These two teams would be wild card.
That is a 10 team playoff.
WEEK ONE:
Have top seed play the runner up to another conference (top 8) and have the small independent play and eliminate each other.
This leaves 5 teams...
WEEK TWO:
Let the top two teams after that elimination draw a bye week while the other 4 winners play again.
WEEK THREE:
Top four teams (two who were ranked highest and the two that survived the above bracket)
That leaves 2 teams .... They could very possibly (even probably) be both from the SEC...
But THAT is a playoff system. That gives a team the chance to EARN their way...
OK. Somebody pay me the big bucks and put me in charge.
