Okay for startes I wouldn't want newish ear plugs but maybe that's just me. Other than that I think it's a good deal , not smoking but good. A savage model 110 shoots lights out and you could find it with a cheap scope for around the same price. It depends on how much you want to spend as far as saving your money for sow thing else in the future. What's your budget for scope and rifle, if you decided to wait?

I can't see spending more than about $600 - $700 at any point. I want to hunt, but have two little ones, so I would not have many opportunities to get away in the next 2-3 years. That's why I am trying not to invest too much, right now. I plan on having my wee ones shooting at rabbits as soon as they understand what a shotgun can do, but that's years away.

The axis doesn't seem to receive a great review... The 110 you mentioned, is that a better quality unit? Should I look other than Savage?

I asked my SO for a hog hunt for Christmas. Don't know if she came through or not. If I don't get a rifle by then should my Beretta 390 do? I want to give myself the best opportunity to take advantage of the hunt, if I get it? That's why I checked out rifles when I knew I would have an extra $300 to throw around.
