1974,

Bad timing, law of averages, too. Yes I know stellar teams would not have faltered. But the Tigers lost 4 games that year to squads that hadn't beaten LSU in a long time that fielded one of their better teams in years: Texas A&M,Florida,Kentucky, and Mississippi State. All four games were close with only Florida winning by more than one TD.

LSU had beaten all 4 the year before.A&M went 8-3 and turned down a Bluebonnet Bowl bid and went all or nothing on the Cotton and got pounded by Texas, 32-3 so they stayed home.Kentucky went 6-5 and lost to Tennessee in a game which decided the Liberty, Florida went to the Sugar and Miss State went to the Sun Bowl.

Now, the Alabama game was just a smackdown added by then #1 Ohio State losing before kickoff to Michigan State putting Alabama at #1 with a win and the only thing that stands out about the Rice game is Rice trying some 70 yd field goal on the last play of the game.

Didn't we play Rice in Shreveport and it was a 13 13 tie?
