I had no idea her accent around everyone (even involved people like Cooper) was supposed to be British.

You need to see some of her other stuff then. She was nominated for her performance in Junebug. She was great in Doubt, The Fighter, Sunshine Cleaning, and Julie and Julia. She's a great actress.
