Watched this last night and loved it. In laws told me the ending sucked, but I thought it was great.
**Spoilers**
Ending with Gyllenhall's eyes gradually becoming more focused on the car in response to the whistle. He finally locks on and it goes to black. Though it was perfect. I don't think Alex is retarded, just think he was completely fricked from being abducted at such a young age. I'm pretty sure he was headed to a psych ward for a few years being that he knew about the kidnappings but was too emotionally unstable to stop them.
Jackman's torture room was exactly how many of us father's see ourselves responding to a situation like he was in. He knew Alex knew where the girls were. I liked the contrast of the two fathers and the extent they were willing to go. Howard didn't have it in him to do the kidnapping, but also couldn't let him go. I thought the scene where he starts to take him out the wall and eventually stops at his wife's pleading was really good stuff. Overall one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
