Perhaps the raise in ticket prices will encourage ticket holders to value the tickets and actually show up for games for more than a quarter.

That's just silly. In reality lowering the price of tickets would likely results in the stadium being full through the fourth quarter because poor people are more likely to appreciate the experience.

Sooner or later normal fans will be priced out, and businesses will scoop them up. They will then be handed off by venders, and fairweather first timers will be filling up Tiger Stadium.

I fear you will see the opposite effect. As ticket prices continue to climb, the intensity of one's fandom becomes less important, relatively speaking, that one's ability to pay. This doesn't mean that all wealthy folks are bad fans, just that many very committed, even rabid fans simply won't be able to afford the tix.

so, it goes, I guess, but I do wish they would postpone the price hike to a time when attendance is stronger. I know the tix are largely sold, but all of us who go to the games know that empty seats are surprisingly common in Tiger Stadium these days, even against SEC foes and even at night.
