Was just listening to local sports talk on the radio and he mentioned Payton as a candidate if Saban doesn't work out. Said Texas is his college dream job and he currently owns a home in Texas.

Does Drew Brees still have four years of eligibility?

He makes more sense than gruden but I'm not sure he has an interest in college football when he has a couple year window remaining with the Saints to contend for a Super Bowl.
Anything is possible I suppose. I'd think from the point of view of Texas the more logical NFL coach to consider would be Harbaugh (if the rumors of him thinking about returning to college are to be believed). Harbaugh understands the college game including recruiting and that is not a given for Sean Payton.
And the money issue is a strange one. Just because Texas might throw upwards of 7 or even maybe 10 million at Saban doesn't mean they should throw equal or similar amounts of money to a different coach if they don't get Saban. Saban has shown (more than any other college coach today) that he knows how to build a championship program and win national championships at more than one school. Those credentials are currently unique and justify unique compensation.
