Texass is used to overpaying for W's. If you divide up Mack Browns salary by wins they pay a pretty steep price already. $10M per year for Saban doesn't seem as crazy if you start factoring in 11 win seasons and BCS bowls at least every other year.
In the Big 12 the new coach at Texass will only have to deal consistently with OU and the occasional OSU or the Haley's comet known as Baylor once a century... Much easier to win the Big 12 and much easier to get a BCS bowl there than in the SEC.
With todays TV and BCS bowl payouts a $10M compensation package for guaranteed success is really a no brainer.
I do agree with you, still is a stupid amount of money.

It was a relatively short 14 years ago when people were flipping their shite over Emmert giving him a then-unprecedented $1.8 million per year.
Money is ruining sports.
