Singer's two Xmen movies are two of the best comic movies ever. I don't get all the hate.
I'll agree. But the effects of those two films has been a weak world carried by only one halfway interesting character.
He hasn't served the X-Men justice despite the quality of the films. The only characters that get a real arc are Wolverine and...Magneto, and only if you count First Class, which isn't his film. Everyone else is cookie cutter, Jean Sort of gets one, sort of, but only in relation to Wolverine.
He personally neutered Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Colossus, Sabertooth, and a host of others. By leaving he allowed Angel, Calypso, Juggernaut, Shadowcat, etc. to all be shite on as well.
Vaughn fixed most of this, and I don't know the reason for his departure, but now we're going to get a movie soaked in Singer;s devaluation of characters outside of Wolverine. Oh boy. Who is a great character, and he's done some good cinematic things with, but he still the only completely fleshed out character.
And I'll be honest, I love the Avengers just as much as X-Men, but the X-Men often had the more meaningful stories and great characters behind them and we haven't seen any of them.
My reaction to Singer has less to do with his ability to direct and more to do with the world he's created. It's a disservice to the X-Men, and UNLESS they fix it with a time wipe in this film, bring Cylops back with a new actor, fix the focus on Wolverine, and build some credible story lines, it's not going to be very good for an X-Men story. This arc should have been TWO movies anyways, and at least to make it the best it can be.
If he destroys his own world in this film, I'll have hope. It's the right thing to do. Jackman can't play Wolverine for much longer. If he doesn't, and especially if he affects Vaughn's contribution, then all of the above will be confirmed.
