Briles is not leaving Baylor...at least for a Texas school. His new contract has a 20 million buyout for in-state schools, 5 million for out of state. Texas could pay it but they won't.

Who do the texas fans want the most? (not necessarily who you will get) I heard Briles a few months ago, but I'm sure you know better than I do.

Let's leave out the unwashed masses for a moment who still love Mack and will be shocked (maybe less so now that the "Mack is gone" narrative is getting out there) when he retires soon...because they don't count and fortunately the people who matter aren't in this group.

I would say the list is probably Saban, Briles (most don't realize the buyout is an impediment), Muschamp (yes, even with Florida's problems), and then someone like Fisher or Shaw. As you can imagine, the list is sort of a coach du jour, whoever had success last. Because of that Malzhan's name has come up (just on message boards, not with the decision makers).

I personally believe the following coaches could have great success at Texas: Saban, Shaw, Fisher, Briles, Anderson (at Wiscy), Mora Jr., Briles, O'Brian, John Harbaugh (I don't think he's that unrealistic of an option), and Muschamp, (but he's last on my list). These coaches would establish accountability and toughness in the program - which, frankly, are the two traits most lacking.

UT hates Briles and he will never be the coach at UT. In 2008, UT finished 3rd in the final BCS poll, behind Florida. The big reason for them finishing behind Florida was that Briles voted UT low in the coaches poll after UT pummeled Baylor. This allowed OU to go to the Big 12 title game (their higher BCS ranking broke the three-way tie between OU, UT and Texas Tech). If Briles had voted UT where they were supposed to be, UT would have gone to Big 12 title game and would have played Florida had they won the Big 12.

Take Briles off the UT list.
