Depends on the age of the son. If he were 42 I'd probably disown him. However little kids have a tendency to take the most trivial of things like football games very seriously. I believe I would try to explain the things in life that truly matter to him and allow him to absorb the lesson on his own.
The only answer

This is a hard one. I remember being 12 years old in little league and losing a playoff game and seeing teammates crying. I never did but I noticed at 12 it happens a lot. I would go watch my friends playoff games (it hopes we played them) and the loser almost certainly had players crying. I think what I would try and teach the way I looked at the game. You can come out and play your best but it is possible for that one day your opponent played a better game and you just have to tip your hat to them.
I was on a summer select team. We made it to the state title. Our team threw a one hitter (two run homer) and we were on the losing end. That team had stud after stud pitching against us. We got one hit off the starter in three innings and the coach pulled him. We loved it, the kid was great, next kid comes in and his stuff was just as good if not better. So I think the lesson to teach is it is competition and even the best in the game can't win them all.
